Whatever moving company you choose, please avoid Globe Van Lines of Hayward, California at all costs. We moved from California to North Carolina and the experience was a nightmare. First, they refused to send anyone to our house to inventory our items, claiming that their experience in the field made it unnecessary. I should not have been surprised when we were "over" our alloted space causing a surcharge. They also gouged us on packing supplies. The net result was a price over $2,500 more than our quote. Since we had to move that day, we had to agree to the extortion.
Adding insult to injury, we were supposed to be able to use a credit card for the first 50% of the payment. When the movers were at our house, they claimed that they could not. Only after showing them my contract did they agree to accept the card number. Once in North Carolina, I called to confirm the delivery date. The operator, claimed that we still owed the inital 50% payment. I told him that we gave a card number per our contract. He became defensive and accused us of pulling some kind of stunt on them! His complete disregard for a contract was nauseating, but again we had to send them a check since they had our items that they use as a hostage.
Finally, after three more weeks of phone calls and demanding a delivery date they sent one guy in a truck to drop off our stuff. They did hire a day laborer who was worthless, so I unloaded the truck with the driver. Please, under no circumstances, should you use Globe Van Lines. I am filing reports with the Better Business Bureau, the California State Attorney, and the US Department of Transportation in the hope that others do not make our mistake. This is simply among the worst companies you will ever encounter.
