I wish I had read this website before deciding to go with Globe Van Lines. They are out of southern California, but the local office was in Hayward, CA (near San Francisco). I was moving toward another Bay area company for our move when I called Globe. Our contact, was an engaging individual, who promised he would take care of us. I provided him with a very detailed inventory of our belongings and he undercut the competition by several thousand dollars... So we went to Globe.
The moving "team" arrived 4 or 5 hours late and were a rag-tag bunch, to say the least. No one in a uniform and they all displayed an "attitude" when they saw the size of the move... Even though we had informed Globe it was a big move (3,000 sq. Ft.). Due to the LATE start, they worked till almost midnight and sent the 20 foot truck back to East Bay, with two of the packers, while the other two stayed in town. Due to this, they got ANOTHER late start the next day. The "lead" in the group was more interested in chatting than working and we noted a lot of tension between the other 3 crew members and the "supervisor". The finished packing near midnight the second day and when the "lead" presented the bill, it was several thousand HIGHER than the estimate.in fact, it was EXACTLY what the first company estimated!
We were stressed, tired and through double-talking, convinced to take the "basic" insurance. We could not believe the "lead" asked us for $100 for each of the crew for a tip!
My wife was fretful for the 3 months the furniture was in storage, but with each email or phone call, she was assured by our contact, in SoCal, that everything was fine. We arrived at our new house in June (3 months later) and were expecting delivery around noon that day. The "crew" arrived 6 HOURS LATE... And consisted of TWO MEN. One was a big guy and the other a very small guy. They were good, but really... 2 men for 3,000 sq ft of furniture! Had my wife, sister-in-law, son and his girlfriend not assisted in the unpacking, it would have taken two days. They did not leave until after 2 am as it was!!!
First thing of the truck was an antique Indonesian bench... Broken. They also broke a side rail on our antique Indnonesian bed, a brand new washing machine, various decorations, Lombok pots and a host of other things. They even ripped off our 24 foot extension ladder during the storage in California! The repairman who inspected our washer said that they stored it on it's side and it was not worth repairing.
Globe was very resistant and uncommunicative as we put in our claim. After 6 weeks of hounding them, we finally received our settlement for all the damage... $150. That was it. These people are the worst movers we have ever used!!! I hope someone learns from our mistakes!
