Radio Shack ripoff WARNING! Poor Customer Service, Deceptive and Non-Existent Contract Terms

When I first signed up for Sprint PCS nationwide/no roaming service and paid for a better phone at Radio Shack, the Radio Shack salesperson put me on the phone with a Sprint representative to answer some questions I had and to confirm my order. I informed the Sprint representative I was placed on the phone with that I would be moving in a few months and asked what I would need to do.

The lady was very nice and informed me that all I had to do was contact Sprint and the area code would be changed, but my number would remain the same. I asked her if there would be any changes and/or charges regarding my contract and moving and she told me that there were none.

I then asked her if there was anything else I needed to do or anything that would be done from Sprint's end and she said no, it was a simple area code change and account tranfer from one area code to the new one.

I will state at this time that the Radio Shack salesman was quite informative and I did not get from him the same treatment other people have posted about. I was treated respectfully and he made no representations of Sprint. He did tell me he had to call Sprint to get my account set up and that I would be going over everything with the Sprint rep.

However, Radio Shack should be aware by now that Sprint is being very deceptive about its products and services.

As soon as I moved I contacted Sprint to have my account updated. I was then informed that in order to change my number, I would have to sign up for a brand new 2 year service agreement!

I informed the Sprint rep. That I was never told of this and did specifically ask about it from the Sprint rep. When I signed up for my new service. She said that she couldnt do anything about it anyway because the computers were running very slow. I told her that I refused to have a new contract when it hadn't been told to me initially as well as not even being a part of the contract I had signed (Yes, I had it right in front of me). I hung up with it unresolved.

About a month later, I discovered on my bill that not only was I paying for having my service from Ohio, I now was paying a fee for being in Massachusetts and using the phone with an Ohio number!

I called again to have it resolved and this time I refused to pay another dime until my account was rectified. I was told that I would have to pay for the early cancellation charge. I refused to pay it and said that I would have no problem with paying the bill I actually owed if I hadn't been lied to by Sprint PCS and I demanded again that my account be rectified. At this time, the rep said she would talk with a supervisor and placed me on hold.

She came back and told me that they had chosen to sign me up for the new contract but would waive the 2 year contractual obligation since I had a good payment record.

Then the phone went dead. I tried calling back and kept getting disconnected. I tried calling from my home number and as soon as I entered my phone number I would get disconnected. I even tried from another persons house the next day and although I got through to a customer service person, a minute after we started discussing my account I was disconnected again. I again tried from my Sprint phone and could not get through.

I emailed immediately from the Sprint website and breifly explained what was occuring, the decision of waiver by the Sprint rep and then the problems I had getting through. I asked that Andrea, the rep I had been talking to please call me back and I gave my contact numbers and times I could be reached.

Curiously, the email I received back told me that nothing could be done regarding my account, that I HAD to sign up for a 2 year contract, and then the email stated that since they could only deal with emails by email, they couldn't have a rep call me back!

Months have gone by with no resolution but I did notice how they were able to contact a collection agency. I refuse to pay a penny until I am contacted BY SPRINT PCS NOT A COLLECTION AGENCY with an acceptable resolution IN WRITING and my service is TURNED BACK ON! I have no problem paying for my actual service but I refuse to pay for poor customer service and deception.

Luckily for me, with the amount of similar complaints by current and former Sprint PCS customers on websites such as this that can easily be accessed publically, that little blip on my credit report can easily be over-ridden by the sheer volume of customer service/sales complaints similar to mine with a notation on my credit report.
