I needed to move from Florida to Indiana for a new job so I hired a moving company that proposed a reasonable cost and delivery time (so I thought) they were contacted by me on May 31 to set up a pickup date of June 8.
June 8th rolled around and the movers were supposed to show up at 12:00 in the afternoon. They never showed up, I called them and they made up some excuse and said they would not be coming until June 9th now!
12:00 was the time they were supposed to be there on June 9th now a day late. No phone calls, no shows. I called them and they said they would not be there until 4:00PM now.
4:00PM rolled around and no calls. We called them once again, this time they said they would be there shortly. 6:00PM rolled around, no movers!
We called again and they said they would be there around 8:00PM because they had gotten lost! (The company is located in the SAME STATE, you would think they would know their way around by now)
So, sometime close to 10:00PM they finally showed up. It took them about 3 hours to remove things from a STUDIO APT. I had already had everything packed in boxes and ready to go.
They walked in with rolls of tape, telling me they charged $4.00 PER ROLL! Then preceded to RE-TAPE all of the boxes I had taped already! I told them to stop and they continued to do it! Adding a new charge of almost $200 to my bill.
Once the truck was packed up they told me first that I had an extra $700 charge due to going over in cubic footage. (My entire apt. Was 500 square feet-they tried to say I had over 500 Cubic Feet / It is not possible!)
My father said "I want the measurements" They said they didn't measure, they look at the slats on the truck! My dad said he WANTED to go inside the truck and measure on his own then and they would not let him.
Then the driver (ron or rob) tries to act like a hero saying he called the office and they reduced the overage charges to $600. First of all my contract stated $3.50 for each additional cubic foot.
After the stuff was packed and they were ready to leave they had the nerve to ask me for a $100 tip!!! I asked them if they were nuts!
Delievery was supposed to be between the 11th and the 15th of June since I started work on the 13th. They called on June 21 (while I was out of town for a work conference) and told my mom they were on their way and we better meet them there!
My mom said I was out of town and they needed to contact us to SCHEDULE something not just expect us to drop everything we have going on with absolutely no notice! So, Rob from Fair Price, a Sub-Contractor we were NEVER told about! (very rude to my mom) said well then you can add another $500 to your bill for a storgae fee now!
He also mentioned that if it goes past 4 days they will sell everything I own at some auction! We have been trying to contact them and they will not return the phone calls now! They are now trying to charge me roughly $2,100.00 ON-TOP of the $1,397.00 that was agreed upon.
Plus, there is a portion of my contract that clearly states "This estimate is GUARANTEED not to exceed more than the amount of the original contract, plus 10%) The total payment to them should not exceed $1,536.70. They are telling me I owe them a total of $3,497.00 or they are going to sell EVERYTHING I OWN!!!
Please someone, anyone help me!!! I don't know who else I can contact and my time is running VERY short!!!
