Complaint / Review
Cingular Wireless
Ripoff, Failing equipment, poor customer service

I just finished another frustrating encounter with Cingular. Previously, I had AT&T, and in December of 04 I transferred to Cingular (since they bought AT&T out) when I added a family member on to my line.

The first problem I encountered was that the sales representative was supposed to add on the media package onto the the 2nd line. He did not. So when I got my bill, I had an astronomically high bill due to premium rates for text messaging, etc. I called Cingular and complained, stating that I was supposed to have it, but they wouldn't adjust the previous bill because they had no record of me requesting the add on service.

On this same line, voice communication is hit or miss. The phone works about 1/2 the time, with dropped calls, late calls, or even missing every other word because of the audio. I didn't have this problem with the other phone. Eventually the #6 button stopped working. I have only had the phone for 5 months! So I figured that the problem was equipement based, not service based. I called Cingular again, and this time they sent me a replacement phone. It does the exact same thing!

I called Cingular again, giving this long history again. This time they were going to "open up the blue (AT&T) towers", and to wait 7 days. I waited 3 weeks, still no better.

I called again yesterday, going through my speal again, and the customer service rep told me that she was going to open the towers again, and that if the phone wasn't working by today, then I would be allowed to purchase a new phone at an upgraded price. When I called today, they have no record of this approval, and can't get in contact with the rep, even though I gave them a name. After sitting on the phone with them for over an hour, the best offer they could make me was to sell me a phone that lists at $189 for $139. It sells on the website with a 2 year agreement for $49. I asked for it at that rate, (especially since I didn't make the decision to sell crappy equipement that people must replace). No going on Cingular's part.

This is the only the last of the problems, there are more. Now I've got a call into my lawyer to send a letter.
