There are thousands of reputable companies selling products on TV and on the internet. SINGER might NOT be one of those companies!
"Singer-the most trusted name in home appliances since 1851" (not any more!) That's what my 82 year old mother thought when she saw the tv commercial for the igia lazer sweepa, apparently she just had to have one, (advertising works, what with being the most trusted name
since the broom was invented and all)
She did what perhaps thousands of other unsuspecting consumers have done, on 2-27-05 she ordered one over the phone from SINGER, (Big Mistake!) Charged it to her credit card. (Bigger Mistake!)
About three weeks later a huge box arrives at her door, with not one, but three of these "sweepas" with the bill to with them! Almost 200 dollars! (over $70 for shipping, handling&tax!)
This is where i come in. She was so upset (both mentally and physically) I told her i'd take care of it. Easier said than done!
I tried to contact SINGER with the 800# over a two week period, all i got was constant busy signals during normal working hours, using redial was usless. I could only get through after hours or on weekends, only to get a recording to call back during the week!
I then filed a dispute with wells fargo for unauthorized credit card charges. They're disputing 2/3 of the bill.
Most people don't bother, they feel foolish enough for being ripped-off by dishonest, companies, (such as SINGER)
they also are not willing to spend several hours, or days of their lives to right the wrong. Not me. (this is how i found consumer complaints)
I wrote SINGER about the above mentioned problem, and was making the onorderd sweepas available for pick-up, or, requested a return shipping authorization# for the unordered sweepas. They never responded.
Wells fargo then told me that they couldn't dispute the extra shipping and handling charges and that they had actually spoke to someone at SINGER, said singer wanted me to return the sweeepas to them, at my expense, again! With no return authorization#! And pray they give me credit on the damn things!
I checked the Better Buisness Bureau about SINGER and found out they have an "F" rating. That's a capital "F" as in "FRAUD"ulent.
Several comlaints, mostly unanswered, or refused to adjust the problem, making a full refund and agreeing to preform according to their contract.
I'm still trying to contact them to get this resolved. I will keep you posted. Until then... Stay away! And write a check! STAY AWAY... And write a check.
