Beware: Small dogs do set off motion detectors no matter what the salesperson, installation manager, or company owner say.
I purchased a security system from this company. I was insistant to everyone (three seperate people) I spoke to before the system was installed that I did not want the system if my dogs would set off the motion detector. Each of them assured me that they would not.
Once the system was installed, my dogs set off the motion detector. I set up four appointments to get the problem fixed (two of which they showed up for) and then noticed the satisfaction guarantee on the website. At this point, I was told that the system could not be fixed so that the motion detector would not be set off by the dogs.
I asked to pursue the money back guarantee on their website and two people at the company told me that I could. I then found out, that even though the company had the guarantee on their website, they did not support it. They said it was ADT's guarantee. After a month of run around speaking with people at ADT and the company, I found that both were saying the other was to up hold the guarantee but neither could force the other to up hold it.
Direct Security services finally admitted that it would be them to up hold the guarantee, but would not let me pursue it. Their reasoning is that they could remove the motion detector and replace it with a less adequete form of protection that would not be affected by my dogs and that would solve my problem. I responded that I did not want nor did I purchase a system without a working motion detector.
They said they felt the other form of security was adequete enough that it should satisfy me. Apparently, they are the ones to decide if satisfaction is satisfied under the satisfaction guarantee.in the mean time I recieved a mailer from ADT stating that dogs are a common cause for false alarms. So not only did they not uphold their satisfaction guarantee, they lied to me about the potential for dogs to set off a motion detector.
They have since removed the guarantee from their website, but continue to say that small dogs do not set off motion detectors. The only other problem I had was that at one point when the dogs set off the alarm, the police showed up at my house and informed me that the system was not registered with them. When I purchased the system, I was told that direct security would handle obtaining any permits or registrations. It was also listed on their website. This has also since been removed from the website.
