Service nightmare billing scandal Ripoff

My father is 82 and has phone service from IDT. With his service he pays for inside maintenance.

IDT uses Verizon in NY to do their maintenance. My father's phone has gone out three times (always after a heavy rain) This time it will be out for over 4 days

When first calling IDT they want him to troubleshoot the problem. At 82 they want my father to troubleshoot a problem.in the end I drove to my fathers and discovered a broken green wire of the outside interface broken and re attached the wire, but still no service on their side of the interface. A technician was to be dispatched.

After 5 PM on Friday June 27 we receive a call from the Verizon tech who says he cannot find the house. The phone had started to work so we said not to worry. Two hours later the phone went out again We call IDT on Friday and Saturday and then again on Sunday. The woman says they will call Verizon to investigate the ticket, but their information shows that the technician went out and the problem was on the inside and Verizon will automatically cancel the repair ticket. (Notice above I found a broken green wire of the red green pair on the interface). I tell them the tech was never there and how come they will not follow up and it is up to me to keep calling the problem in. She proceeds to tell me that they are not responsible enough to insure Verizon will repair the phone and they are not really responsible.in addition if they send a technician out and they don't find a problem they are going to bill my father.

Now I may be wrong, but if you are accepting payment for a service you are also accepting responsibility for providing the service. No where in their contract does it say my father is responsible for troubleshooting. (That is also why we have the inside maintenance agreement) So how come I have to troubleshoot a problem and make certain IDT follows through.in addition let's think here people my father is 82 and without a phone for days.

Now you might think this is enough, but there is more. My father's bill should be around 39.00 a month. His average bill has been 68.00 per month. IDT is supposed to be an all inclusive service with no extra charges.

I also have IDT on my phone and the only problem I had was when I required repair service. It took two days to fix the problem. I was assured this was the exception rather than the rule.

So don't use IDT if you want customer service. They are ok until something breaks.

The other thing is imagine asking your elder parent to have to troubleshoot a problem or be without service for days. If this is not for you then neither is IDT
