I am E-mailing you in regards to an injustice done to me by my prior employer. I was recently terminated from my job at Lowe's home improvements on lima rd Ft Wayne IN. Due to being in breach of a final notice I recieved on 08/20/01.
However the final notice specificly states that it is only for a 60 days time period, and I was terminated on 01/28/02. The reason that the store manager and assistant store manager stated that I was being terminated for specificly was that I was late on two accasions during the week of 01/21/02 once on the 21st by 10 minutes and again on the 22nd by 12 minutes.
But to make the injustice all together harder of a blow to swallow is in the story under this termination. On the date of 01/12/02 my eight month pregenant girlfriend was rushed to the hospital for an emergency Cecarian birth of our son. Who unfortunitly didn't make it do to an unexplainable death.
The mother had lost a lot of blood and was required to stay in the hospital till she was better. She is only 20 years old and I'm only 24 years of age, as you can imagine this is quite alot to deal with at this age or any other at that.
So I opted to take a week off work and went to talk to work and explain why, I on the 12th had already notified work that I wouldn't be in for a few days. So on the 15th I talked to an assistant store manager and, I told him all that occured and that I was going to take off work to straighten things out and that even the first week I was going to have transportation problems for the first week due to the fact I don't have a license and I would be getting a ride from my girl friends mother to work and he said he would let the store manager know and that every thing would be alright.
As stated earlier I was late on the 21st, and the 22nd but on the 22nd I wasn't even scheduled to work and came in because my department manager said I could if I wanted to. Then on the 28th the assistant store manager told me to put six 5 gallon buckets of paint on the top shelf at 7pm and I told him that I was not qualified to opperate the power equipment and his reply was to put it on the shelf by ladder.
I then told him that I felt that, that would endanger my life and the life of the customers. To which he replied that his job was to see problems and my job was to fix them and walked away. I then went to a fellow associate and asked them to assist me, by opperating the power equipment to fix my problem and they agreed.
Then I was called into the office at 7:12pm and notified that I was being terminated due to being in breach of my final notice. I feel that Lowe's in this instance has proven that they aren't a fair employer or family oriented in addition to there lack of care for there customers safety.
