Just this past week, I decided to check on my the status of my buy.com order, which was sent via USPS Mail with delivery confirmation. Much to my surprise, the package was supposedly deliverd two days earlier on the 14th, it was the 16th.
So, I immediately went to my local post office and they took down my information and the tracking number to investigate. They told me they would get back to me, once they figure out who delivered the package (based upon some code used in the tracking).
Well, the next day our mailman came and knocked on my 3rd floor apartment door and stated that she left it in the apartment lobby, even though I was not home. She did state that she saw a couple of people look at the package, and that there was construction workers walking in and out of the building; but didnt see anyone take it. But, there is nothing else she can do. I was like there is a sign that clearly states do not leave packages unattended. I also told her that our previous mailman always left notices to pick up the package at the post office, which is 1 block away.
I tried resolving this with buy.com and they won't send me a replacement since it was supposedly delivered. And the USPS, won't reimburse me for the lost package, since in their eyes it was delieverd, even though they acknowledge the package should not have been left in the apartment hallway. So, now I am out a $60 DVD set and more importantly the money for an item I don't have. I am hoping I can take some action with protection provided by using a credit card, but it is highly unlikely.
The USPS should take responsibility and either pay buy.com for their loss in sending me another set or refund my money. I am boycotting sending all packages via USPS, besides FEDEX ground is cheaper and insurance (up to 100) is included.
