Ripoff: Charged For An Extra Month's Service When I Switched Carriers

My contract with Sprint ended on Sept 24. This would be the last day of my billing cycle. I paid what should've been my last bill with Sprint on Sept 8th.

As it happened, the week of Sept 19th there was a problem with the way my minutes were being billed. My Unlimited Minutes were counting against my Anytime minutes, and when I checked my minutes, I was over.

I called at least 3 times about this and they kept telling me it was my fault for various reasons. The most ridiculous was the hurricanes in Florida had something to do with it. (I live in Utah.)

They finally admitted there was a problem with their system and said they'd credit me extra minutes. But each day I checked my minutes, it showed me further over my allowance. I was afraid to use my phone, and upset because I knew I shouldn't be over.in my final conversation with Sprint I said I would be canceling my service when my contract was up.
(That would be Sept 25th, which would've been the first day of a new billing cycle.)

That week I talked to Verizon and they said to come in on Sept 25th, first thing, and they'd switch my service over. I had heard all the horror stories about Sprint and was very careful to make sure I was doing everything right.

I didn't hear from Sprint again until almost 2 months later when I got a bill. It said my account with Sprint "has a balance of $66.51. This amount is currently due. To continue using your PCS Phone, you must make a payment..." and "If payment arrangements have not been made, your PCS service may be interrupted..."

I called Sprint immediately and after finally reaching a supervisor, was told I was being billed because I cancelled my service on the first day of a new billing cycle, instead of the last day, (the previous day). He told me this was in compliance with their Terms & Conditions that was on their website. He refused to discuss it any further and said I could write to Sprint about it if I wanted and gave me their PO Box #.

I read their Terms & Conditions, and although it asks you to give Sprint early notice of cancellation, it says nothing about being billed for a month of service I didn't use or even have, or any other fee, as long as I wasn't under a contract.

It does say if I cancel before the end of a billing cycle, I would lose any minutes I had, and not be reimbursed for them.

I don't know if this is a legitimate bill or not. It came almost 2 months after I switched to Verizon, and it really just says I need to pay this to keep my service from being interrupted. Either this just a trick to get money for something I don't owe or their way of saying good bye. If I ever had thoughts about returning to Sprint in the future, I don't anymore.
