Office Max offers an abundance of "good deals" every week. One of these offers slipped by me, and I made a purchase of some Epson photo paper, without knowing it was selling for a two for one price. I did not see any signage mentioning the sale at the time I made the purchase. The cashier did not mention the offer to me. I found out about it via a newspaper ad a week later.
I called customer service and they advised me to bring the receipt back to the store, and if possible, the ad. However, I was told it was not necessary to bring the ad, since the store should have a copy.
I did not get a chance to go to Office Max until 2 weeks after I made the purchase. I did not have the ad with me, but I had the receipt. The same offer was still available!
The assistant manager gave me a lot of grief before saying that she would honor the offer, but she would not stop telling me how much of a big deal it was for her to do that. I told her that it was the intelligent thing to do. That really made her mad.
She mentioned something about price matching. I wasn't asking her to match a price, I was only asking for the offer that I was entitled to on the day I made my purchase.
While she was berating me, another employee asked her if he could give out a raincheck on an item that came with an instant rebate. She told him no.
I have also asked for rainchecks from them, on items that did not have rebates of any kind, and have been turned down. The "bait and switch" law is not usually enforced in Illinois, so it might as well not exist.
I do not think that integrity and customer service are part of Office Max's business plan. That is the price consumers have to pay for "good deals", from "category killing big box super stores".
The customer is not always right, but my request was reasonable, and I should not have had to work to get it. I guess that I have no one to blame but myself if I keep shopping at Office Max.
