My credit card was billed $54 for a late fee on a video that I distinctly remember returning on time. I spoke with the assistant manager at the branch location and she directed me to a toll free number for the credit department. The credit department had me on hold for 20 minutes, so she could talk with the same store manager that I had just spoken with earlier.
The credit representative said that their records show that I rented the video on May 28 and returned it on July 24. When I tried to explain that they had made a mistake, she rudely interupted me and said that they had detailed records to show that the video was late. She then offered to give me a partial credit, which I refused.
I also called the number for the Hollywood Video customer service and that representative said that her department could not help me.
My experience with Hollywood Video has been horrible and I will not ever spend a dime at there again as I am canceling my membership today (Hollywood Video would not let me cancel my membership over the phone, nor did they act like they cared when I asked to have it canceled). I plan to contest the charge with my credit card company, however that will take months.
I have learned a lesson in keeping good records to protect myself from such dishonest practices.
