I attended John Robert Powers in 2007. When you first walk in the rush to you and welcome you as if your fresh meat in a cage full of lions. They have you come and sit in front of a tv screen and you watch a video about other actors who have made it "big" from John Robert Powers. I believe one of the people on the video was Disney Channel actress Brenda Song. After that "Miss Tamela" as we called her aka Tamela Hamilton walks in. She looked liked like a barbie with botex. She had on clear stripper looking heels, a mini dress. She looked like she had her lips, boobs and anything else surgical done on her body.
So she begins to introduce herself and tells us this story about how she grew up on a farm and went on to say how she was a tom boy and spoke with country grammer such as " ain't, gunna, finna" and etc. My mother and I laughed to each other because it was funny that we were supposed to beliebe that this big breasted, botoxed face barbie was once a "country speaking tom boy" that lived on a farm. She said that she doesn't call everyone back only people she feels have potential. After you speak they ask you to line up to do a commercial audition in the room as well as walk on the cat walk. I aced the 3 line commercial and got accepted in.
My step father paid for the deposit and I attended my first class not too long after that. The acting class was some older lady we called "Ms. T". After that we had modeling class with Michael, a fun spirited guy. Later a woman whom annoyed every nerve I had named Marilyn Mitchell. From what I hear they owed her money so they brought her back to teach classes. She said how she was a dermatologist, but wore so much cakey make up it looked like she put her face into the middle of a cake.
She bragged about living in Beverly Hills, but that was hard to believe because of her cheap wolf looking 2 dollar weave. I became bored with the school because we weren't learning anything at all. Once we had an audition with some agent from "Browning entertainment" who looked like he may have been a friend of Tamela or someone she hired to come in and make us believe she was setting us up to get discovered.
I was so excited before to dedicate my weekends to it, but I got bored and felt like I was wasting valuable time I could be using somewhere else. I eventually quit before the summer of 2008. Tamela started to call my mom at work saying she needed to pay the rest of the rediculous amount of money that was owed and that she better pay it. Little did she know my step father payed for it and was the only one on the contract NOT my mother so she wasn't supposed to pay.
My mother cursed her out over the phone and we've never heard from them again. I hear they moved to a new location in Corona and their probably pulling new scams over there on innocent people who think their working with a legit agency. John Robert Powers is a COMPLETE SCAM! No matter what location. A friend of mines attended one in Beverly Hills I believe and got the same results. DO NOT attend them or let them try and lead you to believe that they will or can help you because they CAN'T and WON'T!
