I logged online to the kennedy center to buy tickets to Mark Morris Dance group. I did not notice at the time, but above the listing for kennedy-center.com was a listing for "kennedy-center-ticketsintime.com." I clicked on ticketsintime.com, and within a second was asked for credit card information which i entered, and then they took the information and ran away—i had no opportunity to select a seat, or indicate how much i wanted to spend on my seat. And there was no opportunity to print the tickets online or pick them up at will-call. This was clearly a rogue group, but by then they had my money.
The tickets did arrive in the mail a few days later. Two tickets, as i had requested. The face price of each ticket was $49—first balcony rear center. However, Tixintime charged me $163 for each ticket, plus a handling charge of $37.49 each.
So i spent $200 for a $49 ticket. That is scalping on an outrageous level.
