Max Worthington and the LA Comedy Awards is a complete lie and misrepresentation. It is not an "awards" show. There is no governing body who "chooses" the award. The "winners" buy those slots.
If comedians want to be nominated for a category, Max asks for $150. He says that amount helps to pay for their marketing. But, all they get is a Facebook mention and a piece of paper that says they've been nominated. He lets his nominees perform, but limits them if he thinks they can't bring an audience.
If those nominees want to win, Max asks for between $1,000 and $5,000.in turn they get a plaque that says they've won and a mention on the LA Comedy Awards Facebook page.
The LA Comedy Awards offer Celebrity Achievement awards and Mega Star awards to comedians that Max solely chooses based on his own perceived value - like David Spade, Mel Gibson, Jay Leno and Rick Overton.
