Georges Dancin Bare
Strip club, assault, choke hold, strangle, strangled, employee, customer, staff, guard, bouncer, security

I was recently assaulted and nearly strangled to death by a staff member at Georges Dancin Bare in Portland, Oregon. What began as fun night bar hopping with friends ended at a dive known for its filthiness with a nearly fatal assault on a customer by a staff member at a place with an established track record of both rude and violent behavior.

The second you enter Dancin Bare you will see why one City Search review titled "eww" described it as "Yuck dirty. Won't go near the place again. The entertainment was as dirty as the rest of it. This place should not be located in a residential neighborhood." Needless to say the place is not well maintained and according to most reviews never has many customers at all.

The poor customer service of Dancin Bare staff members has been well documented in recent years as one BarFlyMag.com review says, " (the) Staff was very rude and (I) would never go back" while another describes the bartenders as "the most unfriendly i've ever encountered". The latter sentiment being shared by a City Search reviewer who had "never been treated so bad by a bartender". Most alarming is the BarflyMag.com review about the security staff "throwing me on my head" as one man described his ejection on a night where he "out drank Ireland" and "jumped on stage topless". Granted jumping onto the stage is not a good idea, but he did not deserve to be thrown out on his head in such a way that paramedics had to clear him before transporting him to detox.

In my case I was subjected to an unprovoked attack while standing next to my friends at the pool table where I was waiting to play the winner, talking, and drinking a descent micro beer. After a few minutes a staff member came over and told me that I was cutoff, something I have only heard once or twice in my life in situations no where near as mellow as this was. The same staff member had instructed me earlier to put my cell phone away, so I think he may have thought I had taken pictures or something.in a civil tone I started asking him what the deal was due to the fact that I had not been causing trouble or bothering anyone, so my logical conclusion was that he was trying to make we want to go elsewhere due to the earlier cell phone warning. After a minute or two of unproductive negotiation hoping to at least get an honest answer I was taking a sip of my beer (that was already paid for) when he attacked me. Grabbing my arm as I jerked away (natural reflex reaction). He then tackled me before pinning me to the floor and placing me in a choke hold. After I was on the ground it did not take much time of being brutally strangled almost to the point of loosing consciousness before I tapped out (one free hand tapping three times against the ground, a signal used in martial arts and wrestling that someone has given up), but he continued strangling me over and over again despite multiple tap outs and the fact that I was in no position to fight back or otherwise pose a threat to anyone. I was eventually let free and I never plan on going back.

I'm not big dude either, one look at me and most won't be concerned about ever getting into a physical confrontation. It all happened so fast I'm not even sure if he asked me to leave, but if he wanted me out of there so bad he should have just called the police and have them escort me out. Even the guy quoted on BarFlyMag.com as jumping around the stage was not treated so horribly. Even when the use of a life threatening choke can be argued as necessary it should not be applied to people after they had tapped out at which point its continued is nothing more than the deliberate life threatening torture of a defenseless person. Surely a civilian should not be allowed to employ martial arts moves that all U.S. Law enforcement agencies have strict rules for using and some have completely banned due to risk of fatal injuries.
