I have read the other rip offs of mmg. The biggest thing I have to complain about is that... They want you to pay a web inclusion fee... To have your pictures put up on the web site to market you. Than they want a web maintenance fee. I had a two year cotract so that was more money. I am not interested in labeling how much, but its a lot and its bogus. I have been in the modeling industry for awhile now. A model/actor is responsible to pay for com cards, and sometimes a photographer to shoot with. MMG wouldn't even send me the contract until I paid all of the above mentioned fees.
The funny thing is I called them on it and they said, its not a fee, its about you being serious in this business. Funny thing is they never asked for my modeling resume, just an acting resume and I was being represented for both. Here is the kicker that I see noone else has mentioned previously. Their own contracts states that the talent is not required to to purchase anything from the manager or to produce any such marketing marterials and its not a basis for accepting or denying for representation. I spoke with the president of the company about this and he turned it into this thing about being exclusive and every model wants to be paid for.
No, actually I didn't want to be paid for, I will update my look even pay the money to use there photographer, however, when I could afford it. They were fine with using my current pictures for now, but they still wanted me to pay the other fees, web maintenance, web inclusion etc. Thats bs. That should be something the agency pays for not the model/actor. Its funny because its like how can they even argue... Everyone know if in agency asks for money up front they're a scam. There own contract even states they were not allowed to do what they did to me. I have the contract I read it. I am not dumb. I dealt with an agent of there a few years ago and I kept asking why I had to pay the fees than. I was just excited that they were in new york so I was persistent for quite awhile.
However, I wasn't paying the fees. I tried again a few months ago and thats what lead me to today. They ended up refunding my money and the talent manager that signed me told me she had no room for talent that wasn't serious about the business. I am signed with 3 agencies I would say I take the business pretty seriously. You see they knew that I would have been a pain in ther A* because I knew they were robbing me and they couldn't have that, now could they. The president emailed me and had all these excuses and the funny part is he almost got me to believe him. These people are professionals at scamming.
I already know what he will say is look at imdb they are ranked in the top perecentage of actors or whatever... It still doesn't account for all the other people he is ripping off. So they've a few models/actors that actually have been successful. Well, I am sure if you do a comparison of how many have been scammed and don't get work and paid all these fees to the ones who have done ok the percentage of who is scammed and gets no work is a lot greater. I'm sure the blame will be on the model/actor who doesn't get work because they didn't pay all these ridiculous fees. You have been warned!
