Chicago theater fans be warned! Seats in Seats is BOGUS!

This internet business sounds like a good thing, but is definitely not what it seems. Seats in Seats, LLC claims to have access to free seats to local theaters - the theaters make these blocks of tickets available to fill seats that would have otherwise gone empty, and to encourage word of mouth about their shows/theater. Seats in Seats sells access to these free tickets via a membership fee of about $50 a year per person; $100/year for couples.

My boyfriend and I are avid theater fans, so $100 for a year of free theater tickets sounded well worth the money, and their website gives the appearance that there are always tickets of some sort available. See some direct quotes from the site:

- "Register once and see as many shows as you want!" This is pretty hard to do, since once you register and do a search for tickets, there are none to be had. Not a single ticket.

- "Most tickets are available 3-5 days in advance, since the theatres plan their free tickets weekly!" This quote definitely implies that theater tickets are updated on at least a weekly basis, yet once you log in to the site, it says that the tickets haven't been updated since December - as of today, that would mean that they haven't had new tickets in over 2 months!

- "... Committed to having a variety of tickets available to various events whenever you search." Not much of a commitment, I'd say, since the variety of tickets available consists of 0 tickets.

I contacted their customer service department repeatedly and received no response of any kind. Are they still functioning as a business? Have they gone under? If this is the case, they need to disable their ordering system and make it clear that they are in a transitional period or something. If you're not doing business, don't front like you are!

As it stands, what they're doing is, in my eyes, false advertising and needs to be brought to a halt. I've filed a report with the Internet Crimes Complaint Center at ic3. Gov, but am skeptical that I'll get back the $104 ($100 for a two-person membership, plus a $4 processing fee) that I spent on that useless membership. Be warned!
