My fiance was diagnosed with cancer and we decided to postpone the wedding until he was finished with chemo. Well, the tumor grew back after surgery and he now has to undergo radiation and chemo.
We explained to Mr. Clark that we would have to postpone and would like our $1200 deposit to be used for another available date. He said no that was not possible - the only way to get our money back would be if the space was rented to someone else. We both calmly explained the situation, trying to appeal to his "human" side. He said no, the policy won't be changed, no exceptions. So I said, "So if it your wife had cancer..." he said "No, there are no exceptions!" When I began to tell him that I would do everything in my power to get my money back, he hung up on me, later calling that a threat!
After we notified Fairfax County Consumer Protection Division and mailed him a letter trying to get our money back, he wrote us a letter saying that he lost a brother to cancer last year (news to us! He never mentioned this before!) and would allow us to use the money for another available date. We felt that this was a little too late. Only God knows what kind of service we would have received considering that none of us now get along.
