WARNING WARNING - Home Warranty One Year Contract

Do not do business with this company. Warning warning

I had been paying for the National Home Protection (NHP of New York) warranty for more than 18 months when my central air conditioning quit cooling.
I called for repair and a technician was given my claim and fixed the unit ($45 service call).

This happened two more times over the next three months, as a result of the continued failure of the unit, the NHP technician recommended that the unit be replaced (per the terms of the contract) because of a leaking condenser coil.

I received a phone call from a NHP representative who requested all the certified maintenance records for my air conditioning unit.

I faxed detailed maintenance records that I had performed on the unit, i.E. Filter replacement, washing coils, etc…

I received an e-mail reply from some incompetent representative by the name of Frieda Harris, stating that my claim was denied because of failure to provide maintenance records.

NHP would not provide me with any phone numbers and stated that everything had to be done via e-mail. So I continued to e-mail this adamant Frieda Taylor back-and-forth for a month trying to get an explanation of what was required of me. All the while dealing with a failed air conditioning unit.

She continued to refer to section F8 of the contract that I had indeed complied with. She kept stating that I needed maintenance records from a “CERTIFIED TECHNICIAN”, which was not mentioned in the contract nor required by the air conditioning manufacturer.

Dealing with this inept and deceitful company had been very maddening and frustrating for me.

I have finally resorted to purchasing a new air conditioner myself and hiring an attorney to try and collect the replacement costs from NHP. They have ignored all of his correspondence and I still have no settlement. It seems that my only recourse is to try and sue the company which will cost me even more money.

NHP has a horrible reputation with the NY Better Business Bureau and numerous complaints that resemble my own. I can’t understand why our Government regulation commissions allow this company to stay in business.

I welcome any questions or helpful solutions to my problem.
