For the past two years I haven't received a registration renewal notice for my old car (which I no longer use). But the DMV waits till it's 3 months late to send me a collections notice which by then has gone from a $80 fee to upwards of $200! My registration is due Feb 2, and I just received a notice today! And let me just add that the vehicle is on a family friends property (out of sight, out of mind right?) Come to think of it, my husbands registration is due the end of the month and we still haven't received a renewal notice for that yet either. Sooooo frustrating!
