My son is a US citizen (by law, not naturalized) and has a US passport. When he got his first job the manager told him that he would have to proof that he is authorized to work in the US. We thought "no problem, the US passport proofs that he is a citizen and US citizens are authorized to work in the US"
What followed is rediculous: after a few weeks his manager told him to go to the SSA and "update his information", obviously the e-verify program did not show that he is authorized to work in the US.
So we went to their office here in Apache Junction, AZ, standing in line for about 1 hour and the result was: we can't help you, you have to go to our office in North Phoenix (about 80 miles to go and come back). There is no public transportation to go to that place and SSA would not explain why they have an office here where we live and still not be able to do anything about it.
This is a perfect example for government arrogance. While there are millions of illegal immigrants in this country these morons are giving US citizens a hard time to proof that they are "authorized to work in the US". It is a waste of resources, no wonder that this country is like a sinking ship.
