Complaint / Review
North Carolina State Government, Child Support Enforcement
No justice

My fiance received a visit from the local sheriff's department last week saying he had missed paying his child support. They had come to take him to jail and left a court order. He pays his child support every week, and always calls to verify receipt.

He had to go to court last year for this because the state said he had not paid when he had. Now, the state is saying he ows child support payments from 1998 when he has been up to date!!! Here in NC, if you are 30 days late in paying your child support you automatically go to jail. If this is the case, why didn't they come get him in 1998? Better yet, why wasn't this brought up in court when he was there before??? He's going to have to go to court over all of this again next week and, yes, pay over $500 more dollars which he had already paid. Is there anything we can do to get this system right?

I think the penalty for dead beat dads in NC is great, but what about the ones that aren't? Is there any justice? The people working with the state in the child support division didn't want to help him. They were extremely short with him and were in a hurry to get off the phone. They didn't even want to answer his questions. They did tell my fiance that all of the payments for child support are sent to Raleigh, NC and then forwarded on to Georgia, then sent to the child or the parent who has custody. Why is this? Please help!!! We cannot continue to battle this crooked system the government says "works" when it doesn't!!! Also, the judge in the county where he has to go to court knows his "ex" and gives him a hard time. I'm worried about what will happen.
