Getting Charge for Texting When I Don't Even Know How to Text!

Up until about 5 months ago we paid Alltel for our wireless service. We were NEVER charged for texting... We had been with Alltell for several years. When Verizon took over Alltell's ground phone and wireless phone service we started being charged (about $10 monthly) for texting on our wireless phone. We are in our late seventies and early eighties and use the wireless only to keep handy in the car in case of emergency. WE DO NOT KNOW HOW TO TEXT NOR DO WE WISH TO LEARN!!! I have phoned Verizon Wireless two months in a row. The first rep I spoke to told me to have someone who knows how to text phone them to discontinue the texting charge and that she would have that month's charge removed. The next month about $10 was again included on my Verizon bill. This I time I spoke with rep named "Juan"... Juan tried to teach me to text over the phone but that proved impossible because I am hearing impaired and could not communicate well with Juan and my husband is too ill with cancer and heart trouble to handle any more. Juan said he could have the charge for that month's bill removed but he said that I would have to have someone come to my home and text it for me. TEXTING is the only way they have to enable me to stop the texting charge that, they tell me, comes from "Another company", not Verizon!!! This is my complaint: Since I have no one handy to come to my home to use my wireless phone to text to this other company, I will continue to be charged for texting each month from this mystery company. The charge comes on the Verizon Bill and, since Verizon got me into this mess, THEY should do the texting necessary to get me out of the mess! If I don't get satisfaction I shall contact my state's Attorney General's office, send my complaint to Good Housekeeping Complaint Column and also write AARP about same. If you people can help in any way this old lady would surely appreciate it. Signed: C. Engstrom (Mrs.)
