Engaged in price gouging and were rude. Only cash was acceptable. Quoted one price, but when pieces arrived, the price was double! Told me if I didn't pay, they would take the pieces back and sell th

I contracted with Frank and Tony at Continental Van Lines to move furniture when my son lost his home and car in the super storm Sandy. I was quoted one price over the computer. I was told only cash was acceptable. The men arrived three hours late and moved the pieces into their warehouse. From their warehouse, the pieces of furniture had to be sent to Norwich, Ct for restoration. The men changed the delivery date at the last minue, after they confirmed it would be delivered — saying there was a problem with the truck. It's possible. Then after setting another date, they called and wanted to deliver the evening of the day before it was scheduled.

When they arrived on 12/4 in Norwich, the individual said the price was $812.70, rather than the $450 I was quoted. I asked to speak to the office. The individual said I pay the price or my furniture would be taken back and sold at auction. I said I would have to give the balance in a check, as I did not carry that kind of cash. They told me I had to go to an ATM and get cash and they settled on $750.

The furniture had gotten water on it and was dripping trails from the top. Proper care was not taken in loading or storage. Obviously, only one piece was wrapped. And that had water on it also.

I would never use this company or recommend them. I found the individual who told me my pieces would be sold at auction if I did not pay the full amount to be rude. And I do not appreciate or approve of price gouging. A service does not arrive with goods and charge a different price. If any change was made, sufficient notice should have been given and a reason for the change.
