Comet, South BlackPool Store
Consumer Report

Having decided our son was old enough to have a television in his room my wife visited the Blackpool South Shore Comet megastore. She chose a Toshiba set at £599 the amount we were prepared to spend. The sales assistant advised her that the TV’s built-in sound was insufficient and convinced her she needed a Bose sound system to complement our purchase at £250. Despite telling the assistant that we had HDRI connections and no need for on-line services, that we really needed a special Monster HD cable at £85. Because the cost was now over our budget a finance option was recommended with the obligatory enhanced guarantee which we also did not want.
Returning from work I was presented with a finance balance of almost £1000. I set up the TV with no added sound system and connected our own HD cable successfully; the system was fine. The store manager was unwilling to take back the sound system. My wife was simply bamboozled with technological jargon and harassed into purchase. I find the sales policy that allows individuals to choose a purchase then leave the shop having spent almost twice their budget because of the admitted shortcomings of the original product unacceptable.
I find myself left with an unused £250 sound system that we neither wanted nor needed thanks to the overzealous and irresponsible pressure selling policy. Having already been verbally unsuccessful please accept this correspondence as the first stage of escalation which will lead to taking legal advice then action.
This complaint is based on misrepresentation of product and aggressive sales practice.
