Complaint / Review
Campus Habitat of Greensboro, NC
Unsafe Rental

This apartment complex leads people to believe that they are affiliated with a nearby university which is false advertisement. They have no connection to the university unless you want to say some students who lease from them gives them this authority. The university makes it clear they are not affiliated with this group. After you deal with them, you will not have to wonder why.

They have fixed the place up with new paint and furniture. It gives the impression like all is good in the neighborhood. Upon receiving a tour, the question was asked about whether it was safe. The person said yes. They did not have any problems. The new management would not allow it.

That untruth lasted all of a few weeks. Upon preparing to relocate to the area, people were giving all types of warnings and saying that to reconsider moving into the apartment. After numerous calls to the apartment, you can never reach anyone. Either the phone rings or you talk to a student without any chance of speaking to anyone with real authority. Finally, I reached the person who provided the tour and the information about the place being safe. I explained that I didn't want to move into an unsafe location.

Almost a year later, I received a letter from a collection agency demanding rent payment. They said that I had lived in the apartment until October and was expected to pay. I tried to explain to them that I had never lived in the apartment. They told me to contact Campus Habitat and to send them a letter disputing the claim. Campus Habitat refuses to talk to me because they said that it is in collections and so I must talk to collections. I asked them to explain who lived in the apartment until October because I had never moved into the apartment. They told me that they were unable to talk to me.

The crime rate is significantly high. Many students are duped into lease agreements and then afraid of what to expect from day to day. I have learned about numerous break-ins and the managements refusal to speak to the tenants. The complaints are similar to those you read about with slumlords. It is definitely a bait and switch environment. You are given a feeling of security when it is more of a lack of security which you will experience.
