Richard MacDonald refuses to return a rooming house security deposit of $660.00 that I paid on behalf of my disabled brother, who is on SSDI. He accused my brother of damaging an old dorm-style mini refrigerator that wasn't functioning properly to begin with and had a sever problem with frosting over in the freezer section. He is demanding $179.00 for a piece of junk! Brand-new refrigerators of this type retail for well under $100 at WalMart and KMart! He also accused my brother of stealing a bedspread and tearing a mattress cover. The bedspread was not stolen and had cigarette burns in it from previous tenants. My brother doesn't smoke. The bed did not come with a mattress cover or blankets. The bed frame itself was broken and was supported by 2x4 pieces of lumber. I had to provide warm blankets and a comforter for my brother. He also had to notify the Board of Health because Richard MacDonald refused to keep the room at a proper temperature during the fall of 2011.
After my brother moved out, my boyfriend cleaned the room with a vacuum cleaner and told Richard MacDonald that it was left in "broom-clean" condition. Richard told my boyfriend that the deposit would be refunded to me. My boyfriend thanked him and handed him two keys to the room. Richard then turns around and tries to bill me for the damages and alleged missing items in order to fraudulantly keep the deposit and demanding additional payments on top of it! I absolutely refuse to pay these fraudulant charges and am posting this complaint so that others, especially disabled people, don't get victimized by Richard MacDonald and his unsavory business practices.
Richard macdonald, you are a thief and a liar and a con artist! Shame on you for taking advantage of my disabled brother!
