In December my expecting wife and I were introduced to custom home builder Robert (Bob) Macdonald, owner of Hartland Contruction of Milford New Hampshire. We paid Bob $5,000 to design us a home, and gave him another $1,000 to reserve a piece of land that we were thinking of building on. Per the agreement, the $1,000 deposit would be completely refundable if we did not buy the land for any reason. We signed a Contractor Agreement with Bob on December 21st detailing all of this.
In January, due to economic reasons, we were unable to safely move forward, and immediately informed Robert MacDonald of Hartland Construction that we would be putting plans on hold for a few months, and respectfully requested the return of our $1,000 deposit. We did not request a return of the $5,000 for designing the house.
It is now June 4th and our attorney has repeatedly requested Mr. MacDonald return our $1,000 deposit, but to no avail. I sent him another letter three weeks ago advising Robert MacDonald of Hartland Construction in Mildford New Hampshire that I would take appropriate action if the deposit was not returned by the end of the month.
Please be warned not to do business with Hartland Construction and Robert (Bob) MacDonald. He is a smooth talker, and will rip you off without hesitation. Thankfully I found out his true colors before I gave him more of my money.
