In November I took my father to the Care Now facility on Beach Street in North Fort Worth. His face was incredibly swollen due to a tooth that was infected. He was in extreme pain, prompting me to call ahead to find out how long their wait time was. I was assured by the receptionist that he would not have to wait anymore than 20 mins, further, the visit would not top more than $125.00 (worst case scenario). After arriving at the Care Now office, I waited with my father for over an hour. Eventually he was taken to the back (accompanied by myself) where the nurse weighed him and took his blood pressure. We were then placed in an examining room and told that the Doctor would be with him shortly. When the Doctor came in she told him his blood pressure was extremely high and that more than likely it was due to the pain he was in. The Doctor then explained to him that there was nothing she could do for him and that he should immediately go the emergency room, which he did. Afraid that the wait would be just as long there, he desperately begged the Doctor to help him dull the pain. That seemed to upset her and she took a rude tone with him and treated him as if he were was some sort of addict. When we arrived at the ER, I explained everything that had happened at Care Now to the Doctor. He was shocked and appalled to learn that they had seen how swollen his face was and had not immediately sent him to the ER, as opposed to having him wait in the waiting room for over an hour. Since the visit, I have recieved many harrassing phone calls, demanding the full $125.00. I have explained multiple times that there where minimal services rendered, however, I have been told that the Doctor disagrees and refuses to lower the amount owed. My father doesn't have extra money lying around, nor do I. I would be willing to work with them, considering they did take time out of their day for him (10 mins) however they are not willing to be reasonable, therefore the situation is out of my control. It is unethical to charge a person that is broke to start with $125.00 to be weighed (which we could have done for free at home) and to have their blood pressure taken (which we could have done for free at Wal-Mart). I will never visit Care Now again and I will encourage everybody I know to seek medical care elsewhere.
