I thought having to run from the terrorist attack on the world trade was one of the worst experiences I would ever have gone through. That's what I thought, until I had to leave my job and place of residence in New York and move home to Maryland to help two family members who are now terminally ill and save my home that was going into foreclosure. I am also taking care of two children that I inherit from one of my family members.
The worst part was reaching out to the Dept. Of Human Resources for help to support the two children. Not only have I found myself being ripped off but also having to deal with some of the unfriendliest and rudest people we have here in America.
To make a long story short, I went through The Dept. Of Human Resources Child Support to ask for help just for a short period of time for the children, informing them that after stabilizing my ill family members in the house, I would be looking for a job and that's what I am still doing today through Tempt Agencies because I am not the type of person who like to stay at home and receive a check once a month. One child I adopted at birth and the other I took when I returned to Maryland. They are biological brother and sister and they are part of my family so I don't mind having to take care of them.
What I do mind is a government system set up to rip people off if they are not paying attention and who are already struggling to survive.in my case the child support case had to go to NY because that's where my husband still lives and work. There was a court date in January in which the judge ruled that I should receive temporary child support of $490.00 bi-weekly, and in May a final ruling with the same out come.
My husband started submitting payments to the child support services in February. The total amount up to date submitted to the system from him and that he has receipt for amounts to $6,780.00. I have not received a penny of that money as of to day. Now, I have received statements from The MD Dept. Of child Support stating, on my behave they have collected from NY child support service a sum of $1960.00 and Mr. Williams is still in the arrears in the sum of $2460.00 with TCA (Temporary Cash Assistance) which is a joke. Arrear? How can he still be in the arrears with almost $7,000.00 in the system?
When I telephoned child support services they told me I would not be getting any money until the TCA is paid off. The only other answers I have received by phone from child support were, that's all we know right now along with nasty and rude attitudes. Some answers were conflicting with what I was told from the Social working in social service. I asked, how much TCA does my husband have to pay back? Social Services say speak to Child Support, Child Supports says you have to get that info from Social Service. Where did all that money go and what are they doing with it?
One day as I sat in the office of Child support I heard a gentleman asking where his money went, I paid child support he said. Now this is scary. If this story should air I am so sure you will have a multitude of people responding with the same problem I am having with this service. The only person that was very helpful to me with my case in advising my husband and I to launch an investigation was a woman who was appointed to be my representative in the Brooklyn court. She stated there are many cases such as mine with people's money disappearing in the Dept. Of H.R. Child support system. She also stated, if an investigation is launched she along with many others will benefit from it.
I ask you, how long are we going to continue to let this so call government appointed agencies who are suppose to be helping people make it through ruff times continue to still and rip innocent people off? I will continue to write public services until I receive help. I can't afford not to. I am trying to hold on to our family home, take care of my disable mother, and support two children with very little finance coming in. I really need your help as soon as possible.
