I received an unsolicited text from phone # 347-724-6802 offering a walmart gift card for the first 1,000 users to go to http://wmart-gift.com and enter code 3347. Luckily i had just previously seen reports of this same scam on this site (scambook) with various phone numbers and web addresses, but the same scam delivered by text messages, each time. So i didnt even go to that website. Scambook pre-warned me. Thanks! If its too good to be true, its probably a scam.
I wonder if connecting to the phoney websites, can cause some malware or if they can then hack into victim's email accounts or other sites on peoples computers.?? Could someone please explain if this is possible, and would victims please check if they get malware or hacked into, sometime afterwards... And report it on scambook if yes. Be vigilent. If yes, change your passwords at least. It may not be enough but its all i can think of. It may help. Anyone got any ideas?
A message to people who have had unauthorized charges to their credit cards or been cheated some way and lost money: please be aware that you can call your credit card company or bank and start a dispute and you can get the money back often. And cancel that card and get a new card # its well worth a try to dispute it with your bank or credit card company. They usually state that they give you this protection for unauthorized charges. So go for it. Works for credit and debit cards. Also report rogue companies to the bbb and attorney general, and ftc or fcc (latter for phone company ripoffs.) good luck.
I appreciate having this good scambook site. There are also other sites to check for scams or report scams or bad treatment. They are 1.) scaminformer.com... And 2.) yelp.com (for complaints or praise for doctors, surgeons, restuarants, businesses... (no help to get money back from last one.) i dont know about getting money back from scaminformer.com. One more site is 3.) scambusters.com newsletter, (to subscribe to)... About current scams and archived scams. This newsletter also contains good ads from good places for various things. (you cant post scams here, only read widespread latest scams perpetrated on many people) check them all out. Finally on 4.) channel 7 tv and 5.) kgo radio, you can listen/watch michael finney on 4.) "7 on your side" (tv) or saturday afternoons, listen or call in with complaints, on 5.) kgo radio (810am from s.F. Bay area,) (michael finney also) or their archives on the internet... At kgoradio.com or org. Listen live. Michael finney is a consumer advocate. He may be able to advocate for you to get justice.
