Consumer Report

My brother went on match.com and met a woman who called herself mary owen.By the time he told me he was in so deep he would not listen to reason. This woman said her parents died and her father had in inheritance in a bank of america in nigeria. She started asking for money a few weeks into meeting him. She had a attorney contact him via email to explain what he would have to do to get this money released to him. They had given him power of attorney by then. He had to pay a fee to get a credit card sent to him so that the &500,000 loaded on to it. Then he had to pay a customs fee so the bank would send him the pin number to gain access to this money. He would send the fee and nothing would happen, they would contact him again saying there would be another fee that would have to be payed first. My brother was involved in an accident last year and spent time in a rehab facilaty for 6 weeks, when i picked him up to take him to his appartment that he shared with a man he found on craigs list, we opened the door and the entire contents of the place everything he owned was gone along with his roommate and i had just payed the rent to him for 2 months ahead. So i had to bring him home with me for 3 mo. Till he could start getting some unemployment. He got a room in a house and enrolled in the state collage down the road and finally getting his life on track and then this happens. He has borrowed money from anyone and everyone, all his unemployment, his school funding and all the money that was supposed to pay the courts (he got a dui and a week later he was drunk and walked in front of a car and spent almost 2 mo.in the hospital, lost his job, his car and his home) now because of this he has lost his rented room, his school funding and has started to drink again and is on the street, but he goes to the public library every day and a certain time so he can stay in touch with her. He is still sending every dime for more fees. The bank of america, a attorney from nigeria has contacted with a belittling letter saying if he was a real man and wanted too marry this woman he would find more money to pay these fees. They have never spoke just emails, he received a marriage certificate via email and he really believes that he is married to this person. Every week he is assured that her and the money will be here before the weeks end and of course it doesn't happen and there is always a problem and another fee. I think my brother will never recover this. He refuses to believe she is not real. And of course there has been a warrant out for his arrest for not completing everything from his accident. Needless to say all the money he borrowed from everyone including me is gone for good. I cannot believe we send men to the moon but we cannot stop these people from ruining our lives. Match.com should protect people that that go on their site. Don't give free trials that would deter some scammers they don't want to spend their own money.
