Staff needs customer service training

I had bought a soaker hose from Kaimuki Ace Hardware. They are the only store in Honolulu who sells them as I have looked everywhere and on the internet for a green soaker hose. They work the best. The last one I bought had no holes in it for the last 15 feet so I had to roll it up and return it as defective. Unfortunaetely I threw away the receipt because I had planned to use the soaker hose.
When I brought it into the store the manager said I needed receipt which I threw away. I told him I didn"t have one, I just bought it and its defective.
He kept saying he was trying to help me but I need a receipt which I told him 3x I didn't have one. I finally told the manager That if I leave I would never come and shop here again. He accused me of holding a gun to his head. I replied all I want is good customer service as I have shopped at Kaimuki Ace Hardware for the last 30 years when it was a small mom and pop store. I was told I was pushing customer service too far and he had worked here 3 years and had never seen me before.
I've seen him before but he had never talked to me. Does that mean because he doesn't know me I'm a liar.
I think I could have been handled better. I think the staff needs to be better trained.
