Upon going to Budget in Port Richey, FL on US 19, I gave my Debit Card to the counter Rep who came back and stated that I was NOT going to be able to rent a vehicle as I failed a Credit Check.
I had a witness and we looked around the office area and there was NO signage stating that a Debit Card user had to pass a credit check before renting a vehicle, they were quick to capture the deposit though and it took 3 days for the deposit to be posted back to my debit card.
According to Budget Corporate, they have mouse print on their contract stating that a credit check will be run on all debit card users since Debit Card holders are more of a risk to budget (even though they block a specific amount on the card). Budget is stating that all debit card users are a credit risk and a score above 700 is required to be approved for a rental.
Also Budget says counter notification is not required since now there website has the same mouse print showing this new policy, so a walk in to the Budget location is going to know this HOW?
