I got ripped off twice in the last month by the Kwik gas station on Oliver Road, Fairfield. Both occasions were with their intentional misleading signs for car wash. A typical "bait and switch" scam.
A huge sign next to the car wash station says something like: "Buy 4 car wash tickets, get the fifth one free". I bought 4 tickets and after the cashier took my money and printed the tickets, she casually said " you have to use them all in 2 weeks." I was a little surprised and said "Who wash their car 5 times in 2 weeks and where does it say so on the sign?" The cashier replied: "You didn't ask. You asked for 4 tickets". She refused to refund of course.
Last month there was a similar bait and switch scam at this same station. They had a a huge sign with large letters that says something like: "$1 car wash" on the first line and "if you fill up your tank" on the second line. OK, I filled up my tank and gave the cashier $1 for the car wash. He said: " No, the car wash is $1 off for filling up." I was surprised and asked where on the sign that shows $1 off? Well, low and behold, there is a tiny word between the two lines. The word says "reduced". So if you did not carefully examine the sign, you would only see "$1 car wash if you fill up your tank".
I learned my lesson. No more business with Kwik on 1051 Oliver Road, Fairfield.
