Failure of Reverse Gea

I purchased a reverse gear for a Harley Davidson Trike from The Aim Corporation. The devise was not satisfactory from the onset. Upon shifting into reverse, the gears would jam, which rerquired vigorous rocking back and forth to break it loose. The reversing system underwent complete failure when a drive gear came loose from the threaded shaft to which it was attatched. The clutch was also disabled which required towing the motorcycle to the shop for repairs. The gear that departed from the shaft was simply threaded onto the shaft and held with x number of pounds of torque. A quantity of loc tite was discovered between the gear and the shaft. There is no keyway between the gear and the shaft to assist in alignment and to keep the gear from loosening and flying off of the shaft. Neither is the gear bolted to the shaft in order to maintain its continued attatchment to the shaft. The sales representative from the Aim Corporation, without seeing the shaft or the gear advised me that the reverse gear was improperly installed. The installer is a certified Harley Davidson service technician. The representatives at the Aim Corporation no longer call and no longer write and I can only assume they are of the opinion that this is a dead issue. The unit was a $1,300.00 purchase plus $300.00 additional dollars for towing and repairs. I am concerned that other bikers will make the same error that I did in dealing with the Aim Corporation. There are other reversing gears available that the service technicians advise are far superior to the one marketed by Aim. I should also mention that the sales staff at the Aim Corporation are very well versed in the broken english language. Prior to my retirement, I supervised a police bomb squad in Miami, Fla. For thirty years and my hearing has taken a beating. Broken english and impaired hearing do not do well together. If you can assist me in this endeavor, I would certainly appreciate it. Thank You, John B. Lurvey
