They STOLE $2300.00 from a couple who were desperate for help with their mnortgage payments

We were desperate and afraid we would lose our home. My husband was laid off from his job of 11.5 years 12/8/09 and we were barely making it on my wages. Then 8/21/10 I was laid off of my job of 13.5 years.

I can't remember if Scovis Law Group sought out our business or we contacted them, however, we spoke with Michael McDevitt, who would be our person of contact for the "honeymoon" period. He was very nice at first and seemed to really want our business and wanted to help us. He indicated both on the phone and in our contract with them that if he (they) couldn't secure a loan modification, he (they) would refund $2350.00 of the $2850.00 they charged us to get the loan modified.

Not knowing that the new loan modification program set forth by the government did not require a fee, we scrounged together the funds (went in to debt for the money) and sent it to them. It sounded too good to be true. We should have known from the first that if it sounds too good to be true it probably is.

Michael McDevitt indicated that the process took 3-4 months usually, but because of the economy and so many ppeople seeking loan modifications, it could take up to 6 months. We didn't like this idea because we wanted to save our home. He didn't come right out and say not to make our mortgage payments during this process, but he surely alluded to it. He said by law he couldn't tell us this.

Now I'm glad we continued to make the mortgage payments, as hard as it was. We called and e-mailed Michael McDevitt numerous times for updates. He then pushed us off on one person after another, one phone extension after another, who would now be helping us with the modification. This should have been cluse number 2. We had a dickens of a time trying to get someone to call us back. Rarely did we get the person but were forced to leave a voice mail.

He also indicated to us that if we were contacted by our mortgage company, disregard them as they, Scovis Law Group, was now in charge of the modification process. We were NOT to speak to anyone from the mortgage company because they would only confuse the matter.

However, month after month we were to send Scovis bank statements and such. And time after time they said we didn't send the right paperwork and they blamed this for the delays.

And month after month our mortgage company would mail us a letter indicating they would not be giving us the loan modification. And each time we faxed Scovis their letters to no avail. Each time we called and left woicemails requesting a call back, at first they did respond back. However they always said not to worry that they had everything under control. And every time they said this, we naiively belived them. We have a bad habit of taking a person at their word and trusting them. We should have done our homework regarding them, first.

Here it is 18 months later and they now refuse to call or e-mail us back. I even went so far as to tell them that we would be speaking with the California Attorney General and/or suing them to get our money back, if we either didn't get the modification NOW or give us our money back.

We figure we have seen the last of our money. I tried calling their number today and got a recording that said they were now the Audit Processing Center. I typed in the extension for Isabelle Maadi who is our current agent and got her voicemail and left her another voicemail telling her we would be taking this to court if we didn't hear from them NOW.

I have since visited several different complaint webistes regarding Scovis Law Group and it seems each time someone complains and the complaint website contacts Scovis for a response, Scovis says the complainant isn't even working with them. This is an outright lie if this is their response. I have all the communications we have e-mailed or faxed them if someone requires proof of our complaint.

If there is anyone out there that can help us get them to give us our money back, please feel free to contact us. We have NEVER had to go up against a big law firm before and are new at all of this.

If you are reading this and entertaining letting Scovis Law Group assist you with a loan modification, stop right now and run the opposite direction as fast as you can. We have just saved you a big headache and a loss of a LOT of money.

Let'ss see if they respond that we don't even have an account with them or that we are liars out with a vendetta or axe to grind.
