After going to dry dock in September the Herron Island Ferry came back into service with its exhaust being exceptionally loud. On October 21st the sound was adjusted. The adjustment made some difference but not much. During the several hours a day and in the evening while the ferry makes its run, the noise in our quiet peaceful community is unbearable. The exhaust creates a harmonic which pierces one's bones. Decibel levels inn the 90's. No longer can we sit and have a coffee and a chat on the deck. My husband and I now sleep with ear plugs in and are still woken in the morning at 6am when the engines start up. Besides being very disturbing, the noise affects the local cormorants which perch on the buoys and we feel that it can also affect the value of our lovely property. Please let us get together and do something about this.
