2-Liter Diet Dr. Pepper Bottle Cap

I love Diet Dr. Pepper. I buy it in 2-liter bottles. I buy dozens of bottles per month. Recently, I've noticed that the cap seems to be fused to the bottle threads (perhaps not a good explanation). Out of perhaps 20 bottles, 2 had this problem. No matter how hard I twisted the cap, it would not open. I even tried pliers. I am no weakling. Finally, out of desperation, I punctured the bottle with an ice pick and drained the bottle into an empty DDP bottle. Both caps were maroon, dated JAN 10. Both were purchased at Dollar General in Lee's Summit, Missouri.
