Extremely bad experience. Emailed to check suitability after operation, despite disability accessible described, No parking at all, yellow lines in road, fighting for elusive spaces in road, had to park in back alley with great difficulty after cancer operation and still healing, overnight parking in a car park but have to be up by 8am or will get parking ticket and then hunt for long time for a space. After 5 hours of driving and hunting for space to park and unload I was exhausted and feeling ill, one minute later landlady in room asking for payment, I had not unpacked, in fact only just opened case, had no cuppa after all the driving. Charged £40 per night even though states £35 maximum. Toilet does not flush which is disgusting especially as hygiene is important to me, the room faced another street of houses who could see in my room as no net curtains or blind so had to keep curtain shut. Have photos of room as carpet grubby, dust in wardrobe shelves and on top, broken leg of wardrobe and chest drawers badly water marked on top. TV is a small portable fixed high on the wall so have to strain neck to see it. Was certainly not luxury or private. My room door would not open or close without bodily force further impairing my wound and disturbing others. The bath and toilet was in one room and for other guests also. No sink in rooms. Luxury? The landlady should not have taken my booking as should have said not suitable for me as stressed I needed to recouperate. I did not sleep all night as had panic attack from all the stress trying to park as went round and round through town with many roadworks and sat and cried as I was so desperate to find a place to park and did not want to have to rush out at 8am to move it from a car park as on holiday I did not want a time schedule. I desperately needed to relax and as I felt so ill by the morning having only been in from about 5pm to 8.15am when I left due solely to this. I waited from 7.30 to speak to landlay till 8.15 with no response, I had to get to see a Doctor and did not want to make a scene with other guests around later so left letter explaining the issues and requesting a refund of the credit payment which she had taken a minute after my arrival before I had experienced any of the service, she took £240 off of me. I had no breakfast as left for the medical treatment and in fact had to go back to doctors late afternoon. My husband came to collect me via train as I was unable to drive home and also we had to collect another son from another area so he had to forego his holiday also. I could not travel home until the next day and have in fact had to go back to hospital for assessment as this experience left me stressed. It was a total waste of time coming away and my husband since booked me in a retreat for 2 days to relax. Her website says "escape the stress", well I say go to High Tide to get very stressed. She has not answered my letters or emails so I am now taking steps to recover the money from the authorities and credit card company. I was booked in under false pretences. Money is the driving factor for the B&B. If you want to spend hours hunting down parking spaces all your holiday then this is the place for you! I am very disappointed and also after sickness and also being a mature student I cannot afford to throw away £240 to make myself ill, this was supposed to be a treat for me, visiting old friends as I ran a guest house for many years in East Devon years back. I informed her my action if she did not refund money, £200 I stated even though it was the worst night of my life and had no breakfast and certainly begrudge even the £40 so why she charged me over the normal rate I am not sure. The money was more important than my welfare and again I say she had no right to book me in knowing the stress I would incur trying to park a car. I stated needing recouperation and relaxation and now my health suffered as well as financially as she has just ignored my compaints and contact. I have contacted credit card company who will deal with it as she has not refunded and has had 10 days. AVOID BEING DISAPPOINTED as holidays are to chill out not stress out. Clients view and explore parking issues before committing.
