I took my 2002 Prism in to Firestone and was told that my tires were on their last "legs." They were right, and after being assured that $750 was a fair price for brake service and new tires (one of which I was told had been thrown in for free because they weren't busy), I opened an account and went for it. A week later, I started to hear a clattering in the front of my car where the brakes had been replaced. I took it back in and was told by the mechanic that he "had to use parts that didn't really fit well" and that he would tighten it up, but that the sound would come back and not to worry about it. I drove like this for six months, with the sound getting worse and worse. I finally took it to a different Firestone and the mechanic showed me that the brakes had NOT been replaced, there was only one caliper instead of two, and the one that was there was either upside down or backwards. He also showed me a casing that holds brake fluid that was so old it was in tatters. The faulty caliper had ground a groove ito the disc, and the guy told me it was a miracle my brakes worked at all and that it was very dangerous. He took care of it for me and apologized for the terrible service I had recieved, but needless to say, I will never go back. There's a big difference between bad/rude/incompetent service and practices that put one's life at risk. I cannot overstate the disgust I feel for this company and their disregard for safety. Stay away from Firestone!
