Firestone did my brakes on my dodge stratus about a year ago. They didnt feel right though. I brought my car back in and they checked them and said it was just because they were new and it was nothing to worry about. So I pushed past my feeling of discomfort every time I had to push on my brakes. About a month ago my brakes started not grabbing. I brought it to firestone again. They told me it would cost just under $800 for a basic brake job (last year it was around $400... What the heck???) I knew of a shop that would do it cheaper and brought it there. It took 6 hours for the shop to fix my brakes today because firestone had screwed up my brakes so badly. My calipers were not put on correctly. Pads werent tightened down or installed correctly. My back brakes which are drums were really messed up. THe passenger drum didnt even have any shoes/pads on them! The wheel cylinder was installed wrong too. I was also told that my brakes felt weird to me because more than likely my brakes lines weren't bled out... THe shop I had my car at to get the brakes fixed today felt so bad for how bad the damage was they only charged me $150 for the service instead of $300 (still cheaper than Firestone's $800 for a brake service!) They also did a full diagnostic on my car to make sure nothing else was messed up on my vehicle.
I spoke with the manager at the firestone I brought my car to and he stared at me like I was the dumb one when I asked him if they had even bled out my brake lines when they did my brakes. He told me you dont do that because its a waste of brake fluid and its perfectly okay to have air in the line! Clearly the staff has no clue what they are doing at all.
Car mechanics are ultimatly taking our (the driver of the vehicles they are working on) lives in their hands. If they dont know what they are doing they could very very very easily kill someone. Go somewhere else. Anywhere else. Do not go to firestone!
