A friendly young man came to my door and gave me a story almost identical to the ones on this site: soccer playoffs, etc. He gave lots of details about which college he was attending, then said he would play for another college in Dallas on scholarship. Said he worked at a particular retail shop. Said he lived on certain street. I fell for it; wrote a check for $120.
That night, I couldn't sleep. I decided to look his "mom" up in phone book. Not there. Next day, I checked the county property records: not there. Checked enrollment at university: not there. Checked with soccer coach at other college: he said this scam has happened in Dallas in Oct/Nov for the past 3 years. Checked with retail shop: guy not an employee.
I stopped payment on the check. He came back to my neighborhood two days later. I saw him and called police. They wouldn't do anything. I ended up following the guy around a little while, then drove up to him and told him I was on to his scam and he'd better leave the neighborhood. I essentially chased him out of the neighborhood... I just wouldn't leave him alone. Why doesn't Georgia shut down this company? They are clearly using fraud to sell their goods.
