A teenage looking boy solicited our neighborhood saying he is raising money for his soccer team to travel to San Diego for the National Championship. At first, he was unable to tell me what club he played for, and did not recongnize the names of any of the main three soccer clubs in our city. He then said his team (the "Strikers") was with the National Soccer Academy and that he had players on his team from several locations.
I searched for his team on the internet, and could not find it which started me searching further. He also said he lived in the adjacent neighborhood and had just moved their from another school district (Wayne HS). This may explain why none of the neighborhood HS age kids recognized him.
His story was similar to the other reports I read on this webstie. We could donate the books we purchase to a local school, etc. Of coarse, helping out a neighborhood kid is something most people are willing to do, so it is an effective scam, and it is upsetting because there are a lot of kids who do raise money for legitimate youth organizations.
