Family Dollar Stores
Please dont ever lower yourself by working for such a horrible company!

Wow, too bad this web site wasnt here 3 years ago! I was employed by this company for 5 years, and I loved every minute of it to tell you the truth. I loved my job and I adored my customers (and they adored me). My employee reviews were flawless, I had an immpecable reputation... Unfortunately, the store i worked in was in the middle of a crime riddled neighborhood, and we could not keep decent employees, the kind that wouldnt let there family and friends shop at our expense. The only decent manager we had been lucky enough to have was only there a short time and was hurt, by falling off a ladder while trying to put up seasonal, to make her d.M. Happy (he has since been fired, what an asshole he was) in any case, the manager is now disabled for the rest of her life. (she landed on her head when she fell). Family dollar did NOTHING for her, wow, what a surprise! Lord knows if they would have showed a little concern, it might have cost them extra dollars. Sorry for getting off the subject for a moment, but that situation has always bothered me, and i needed to vent. Anyway, anyone reading this, im sure, understands the process of management at family dollar, and although i chose, repeatedly, to decline management, i was constantly being made to do schematics, pick ups, deposits, merchandise orders, i handled the employees, even sometimes did the schedule. All on 6.65 an hour. When yearly raises came up, i was given anywhere from. 10 to. 20. I started at family dollar in 1995, at 4.25 an hour. To make this long story short, they hired a manager that had been previously fired by family dollar. She walked into our store like she knew what she was doing. Walking around, patting everyone on the back, telling them how great they were. Since i was the only "original" employee, she tried desperatly to be my friend. I kept my eye on her, and very quickly she became a typical family dollar manager... Backstabbing, pitting employees against eachother, trying to make each individual feel as if she only trusted THEM. I had seen this all before.in any case, she had no problem asking me regularly to come in on days off, stay late, etc. The problem was, i was just a cashier, and i was sick of making crap for an income. When i asked her about a raise, she sat next to me and told me to call the d.M. To ask him, because she felt i really deserved it. Needless to say, she would not get on the phone with this man, to speak on my behalf, at all. Ok, i did it myself. I was told by my d.M. That since i had repeatedly refused any management position, i was not getting a raise. I explained that i no longer would do any job duties that were supposed to be done by a manager, and i told the man what i truly felt about him, as a d.M., and as a human being. I was fired 4 days later. The manager called me to ask me to come in on my day off for " a few minutes" and when i arrived, she asked me to come to her office. I went in and sat down, at which time she proceeded to accuse me of having an extra register key, (?) and i supposedly used this key to do a 2.12 refund on a curtain rod for a customer. She then ATTEMPTED to accuse me of trying to break into her office with a screw driver (?) at this point, i had made 2 observations: 1) this woman obviously had serious mental issues, 2) this was all because i had made a fuss about my pay rate and job conditions. At this point, i proceeded to call this woman every filthy name i could possibly muster up, then i went home and called her d.M. He told me he had no idea what i was talking about and that he had nothing to do with it. I told him that his "girl" didnt do her homework before she dreamed up her plan to fire me. She forgot that the refund she was accusing me of doing fraudulently was done by her assistant, another thief that she befriended, an ex convict, in prison for beating his baby nearly to death, and the customer the refund was done for, was a regular customer, who CONFIRMED the "guy" did his refund. At that point the d.M. Told me that i still had my job, at which point i told him he would have to be a raving idiot to think i would ever work with mental people like that. I basically told him to kiss my ass, and that family dollar would be supporting me for the next 6 months, being that i would be collecting unemployment the very next day. Guess what? Hmmm... It seems family dollar didnt even attempt to dispute my claim to unemployment, now, isnt that odd? They fired me? I took a well deserved vacation for 6 months! It was wonderful! When i decided to start looking for a new job, i landed the first one i called. Ive been there for almost 3 years, and the owners treat me as if i am a queen. I really thank family dollar for teaching me a valuable lesson in life... NEVER work for people that dont care about you. Family dollar lost probably one of the most loyal, caring honest individuals it will ever employ, along with a bunch of other employees, who, unlike me, were smart enough to get out sooner, some with 10 years with that company. What a shame. I might add, ive been in that store recently, and my god!!! I cant believe i worked in a dump like that! Garbage all over, the parking lot is a discrace, freight all over the floor in every isle... A few years ago, that store was so nice, we swept the lot and the sidewalks regularly, made sure we showed people we cared... For anyone who might consider getting a job at family dollar, i have just this to say... Dont! Please understand that the people who work for family dollar DO NOT CARE about you, trust me, i know. They will shit on you, use you up, pay you nothing, and when they're done with you, they will make up a story to fire you, plain and simple. And for all you former family dollar people... After the shock of quitting or being fired, doesnt it feel great to be out of that drama? I am enjoying my life now, i hope you are too.
