Cruel Conduct

As with any, life happens, so when we had a Family crisis, and did not catch the notice requiring payment, on April 16th, after having been seen that am for the severe break on my foot, and the door bell rang, I had just crawled up to my bedroom to put the painful limb heavily casted up. The Lady who went to the door, who speaks no english, came up to tell me someone was here. I got up and called down to ask what the problem was. The Man told me simply he expected payment or would be turning our power off. I am a Mother of 4 little Ones and I have a disability in addition to this broken bone. One can imagine the panic and upset, so I asked the Man to please call my Husband - that I would get the # for him. I then heard as I tried on the phone to find my Husband to know what # to give, a loud banging noise. It woke the Baby and she was terrified. I called down asking what he was doing and asked him to call the # I provided. He was rude, and coldly authoritative throughout. I needed to crawl down my stairs and figure how to arrange payment as my Husband pays this via the Net. I went to the door on my walker, which causes me to go slowly. The Man refused to come to the door and leaned closely up against the brick wall so that I could not see him. He could have even just taken 3 paces out from the wall so I could see him, but refused. I hobbled to the side window, opened it and was extremely upset at this point, when he would not even do me the kindness of showing himself so I knew who it was I was dealing with. I asked to see his badge and he immediately turned it around. He refused to show me and admonished me for calling him a name. I admit whole-heartedly, I was upset and in pain and who would not have been, especially as they hear their Baby crying in the background. I said I needed to know who he was before i handed him some cheque. My Husband came home and paid the Man while I tried in futility to explain and express to the above Representative, who was rude in her own manner, by telling me she had no proof he turned his badge etc. After my Husband left, and I crawled back up the stairs sobbing, I noted 30 minutes later, the Tech "Thomas" was still sitting in our driveway. I called Delmarva again. I acknowledged we owed them $ and were sorry and this was due to extenuating circumstances. What the issue was, was how Delmarvas Representatives handled it. She told me The Tech had called the Police requesting an escort and would not leave until then. Moments later, he drove off, after telling the 4 Police, if I could get down the stairs to see him, I could get down again to show myself to them. I then had to crawl back down the stairs again. Absolutely, there are always 2 sides to every situation, however before one wonders about this, imagine, what benefit would I get from recalling such a nightmare, and having to reveal making the error in payment. I am in shock and horror, that n the days when women are supposed to be extremely cautious who comes to their door, around their children, or who they hand money to, even if he claims he told the Hispanic Lady who answered the door he was "from Demarva", it is impossible not to see she speaks no english, and as it was clear to him, the Owner was me, is the Owner of the house not entitled to see the Badge and verification? I grew upset and began crying when he refused to come to the door so I could see who it was who was doing all this. Delmarva Rep defended his turning his badge 'to protect himself' a large man, from a 5"2 woman, in an enormous leg cast, with a walker, inside a home. Is this how humanity works in this day and age? Had "Thomas" simply come to the door after I crawled in agony down to see him and attend to the matter, this could have been avoided.
