Just came back from a failed inspection at Monroe. I hesitated to go back there in the first place as a result of them changing my oil with two less quarts of oil than required for my vehicle. I decided to give them a second chance. Besides how can they screw up a simple inspection that passes every time? Once they gave me the list of things that were wrong, they gave me the price of $712 (for an inspection). They told me that they didn't upcharge the parts. So I went to the parts store to get the parts myself. Amazing, there was a $500 price difference. They were going to charge me $500 labor to replace brakes, rotors, calipers, and two light bulbs. I just finished the job myself and it took me (a non-mechanic) an hour and 45 minutes. It probably would have taken them an hour. So they are charging $500/hour for labor. I was also told the calipers come in pairs. Even though only the boot was bad on one side, they both had to be replace. I was re-telling this to the guy at the parts store as he was carrying my parts out to the car. He said you can see that they come separate. He always said that if you are not honest, people will not come back to you. I guess that is a lesson the Monro needs to learn. I do not have any recourse at this time. So I will do what I can on message boards and by telling my friends, relative, and neighbors to stay away from Monro at all cost unless they enjoy getting ripped off.
