Service Magic
1800 Contractor This company claims they screen the service professionals to make sure they are licensed and insured and they do not do this. They are reffering service professionals that are not licensed or insured

Service Magic is referring Service Professionals that are not licensed to do work that they list in their descriptions, at least in our area.

We have called repeatedly to make them aware of this situation and no one there seems to care or want the headache of researching this and fixing the problem. To give you an exact exsample in CT you must have a separate heating license in order to do any heating work, we have told them this many times, but they still have plumbers with no heating license getting heating work leads.

The problem lies in two different areas first off we DO have a heating license over and above our plumbing license and we are being under cut by these unlicensed plumbers, also more over and worse off all, if one of these homeowners gets faulty work done by an unlicensed contractor and it was to cause some damage such as a fire or flood or the like, this homeowner is not covered by their insurance company because they hired an "unlicensed" contractor, also the contractor's insurance will not pay for the damages because of the same reason he is not licensed to do that work!

And Service Magic is saying they are licensed and insured and consumers are letting their guard down and not asking the questions themselves they think Service Magic has covered that already.

In CT you can clean and clear drains with no license but they have drain cleaning/clearing company selling plumbing services. And a plumber can do plumbing work but not heating work without a heating license.

Upon contacting Service Magic once again last week they now told us it was our responsibilty to find that verbage in the state licensing rules and regulations and to send it to them and then perhaps if they had time someone would look into it! That is not my job or my responsibilty, but I did it anyway, ps just so you know Service Magic gets paid by every single contractor they sell the lead to, so it behooves them to have many contractors licensed or not to sell the most leads.
